Saturday 13th August 2011 saw another fantastic Show with a great turnout and many success stories. Hannah Wood and her horse, Alfie, took the Championship, and Dot Griffin best in show and 1st prize for her strawberry dessert. The produce & handicrafts section produced many Alstonefield and local winners, amongst them John Bonsall with 1st prizes for both his animal vegetable and family picture and Thirza Eades another 1st for her jam. Noel Peat got a 1st and 2nd prize for his brown & white eggs and Denise Sault a 1st and 2nd for her flower arrangement and watercolour. Jean Allen’s specimen flower also took 1st prize, as did Phillipa Stupples’ marrow. Brian Ross’ family occasion photograph won 1st prize and Cathy Reavy’s ‘looking up’ photograph was awarded a 2nd prize. Frank’s granddaughter, Anna, took 3rd prize for her decorated cakes. Of special note were the gentlemens quiches, where Alstonefield took 1st, 2nd & 3rd prizes with entries from Rob Wood, Brian Ross and Kevin Stockton (exactly the same line up as last year!) In the cattle classes, Peter Griffin’s Belgian Blue Heffer,’ Snowflake’ took both a 2nd and 3rd prize, and 1st’s & 2nd’s in the heats of the terrier racing included Noel Peat (pictured with his dog, Rusty), Hannah Wood’s ‘Bertie’ and Jo Wood’s ‘Milton’. Ann Colclough with helpers Denise Sault, Notty Hornblower and Sylvia Armitt, manned a cake stall in aid of St. Peter’s Church and made a fantastic £667, a 10% increase on last year’s total. Well done everybody!
