Fibre Broadband Poles and Cables

Connect Fibre have arranged a public consultation in Alstonefield Village Hall on Wednesday 21st August starting at 3PM.

If you have anything to say on this subject, or have any questions to ask, this is your opportunity. Their Chief Delivery Officer, Dale Regan, will be there.

‘Save The George’ meeting – 7.30pm Thursday 8 August

The George

‘The George at Alstonefield Community Benefit Society’ is now officially registered and we are ready to launch our Share Offer, donation and fund-raising efforts.
Please support this meeting, where we will be presenting our plans to raise the necessary funding to purchase the freehold of The George from Marston’s.
The Share Scheme will be explained in detail plus we will outline the other fund raising efforts that will be taking place.
The meeting will also be available via a Zoom link.
 

The George… After closing towards the end of last year, The George has re-opened with a new tenant. Good quality food available (booking not essential). Dog and people friendly. Closed Mondays; open from midday on other days; closed 2.30pm-5.30pm and after 9pm Tues-Thurs; Fridays/Saturdays open midday – 2.30pm, then 5.30pm til late; Sundays midday – 7pm. NOTE: The pub has been registered as an “Asset of Community Value”. As such, the owners need to inform the community if they intend to dispose of the property. We need help – find out more on the new website here

Sample delights include coffee cake, deluxe chocolate cake, lemon drizzle, Bakewell, brownies, fruit slice, white chocolate and cranberry slice, gluten free carrot cake and also gluten free banana and pistachio cake, millionaires shortbread, fruit scones with jam and cream and fluffy cheese scones with butter…

Just down the hill at Hopedale, the Watts Russell (01335 310126) is open 12 – 9pm at weekends, and from 5 – 9pm weekdays except Thursday (closed all day). Village Hall – new hire charges

The village hall has updated its hire charges, applicable to new bookings from 1 July 2024. Rates are now particularly competitive for exclusive-use bookings for weddings and similar events. For more information, go to the village hall page or see the new Hire Charge Notice (a pdf file).

Staffordshire Farm Watch

We’re all aware of the rise in rural crime, particularly within the farming sector. Staffordshire Police are working with local communities in the Moorlands area to tackle these issues and have set up a Facebook page to keep everyone (or at least those who use Facebook) up to date.
